We all know Briggs, the Indigenous rapper, actor and comedy writer, who has worked on hilarious Aussie TV shows like Black Comedy and The Weekly. We love Briggs, because he is great and funny and says lots of smart stuff on Twitter and in life.

Well, the Briggs we know and love is going full HOLLYWOOD. This morning he announced that he is one of the writers for Matt Groening’s brand-new Netflix show Disenchantment. I mean, wow.

We have so, so many questions. First: how in the hell does a rapper/actor/comedy writer from Australia get to be a writer on Matt Groening’s super secret Netflix series? HOW? That is crazy wild and amazing.

Second: is Briggs dying of joy rn? I would be dying of joy. We would all be dying of joy. Writing for Matt Groening on an animated series staring Abbi Jacobson and Eric Andre is like… the limit. It seems like Briggs is, if not dying of joy, at least pretty damn chuffed.

I mean, look at that adorable photo of Briggsy with his arms around noted genius Matt Groening? Matt Groening, creator of Ralph Wiggum and the HypnoToad.

Briggs has recently made quite a name for himself on local TV, working on season two of Black Comedy as an actor and writer, portraying Maliyan on The ABC’s hit sci-fi series Cleverman, and as the Indigenous Australian Correspondent on season two of Charlie Pickering’s news satire program, The Weekly.

If you’re keen to get an idea of what Briggs’ work on Groening’s new show might be like, we’ve collected a sample of some of his greatest TV hits below.

Here’s Briggs talking white Australian invasion on The Weekly with Charlie Pickering.

And here he is as the strangely endearing “Uncle Doctor” in one of my favourite gags from Black Comedy‘s brilliant second season.

And here’s Briggsy’s absolute tune, ‘Bad Apples’, which features my favourite line about a pen licence of any song in history.

It’s going to be pretty bloody exciting seeing a local man doing it big over in the US — especially with an animation/comedy legend like Groening. It’s fair to say we’re all frothing, and more than a little jealous of Briggsy right now (as well as totally happy for the bloke, of course!).

The man sure can juggle a lot: a banging rap career, ripper roles on local TV, and now this? Seriously, congrats, and can’t wait to see Briggs out there in fancy Hollywood comedy land, totally. getting. it.
