Fix yourself a bowl of sugary cereal and promptly discard any and all of the cynicism you’ve been building over the past 21 years, we’ve just got our best word yet on long-rumoured Space Jam sequel. Not only is it happening, but Cleveland Cavaliers forward and Trainwreck co-star LeBron James is tipped to take over Michael Jordan’s role and Fast and Furious director Justin Lin is looking to write, produce and direct.

It’s time to eagerly embrace a world in which a basketball star, the cast of Looney Tunes and Bill Murray save the world with basketball.

This news comes from The Hollywood Reporterwho this morning stated a script is currently in development with Justin Lin, Andrew Dodge and Alfredo Botello (who also worked with Lin as a writer on the upcoming Star Trek: Beyond). James’ involvement, on the other hand, hasn’t been much of a secret. Though reports of his role in the film were firmly shut down in 2014, rumours spiralled out of control when he signed a big deal with Warner Brothers last year in the same week the company re-trademarked ‘Space Jam’.

He didn’t exactly do much to stop them.

Regardless of your growing resentment for the booming ’90s reboot market, it seems like there are plenty of reasons to be excited about this film.

With natural charm and a skill for improv, LeBron James definitively proved himself the man for the role in Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck. Every movie in Justin Lin’s body of work already seems like a mix of outlandish cartoon and real life, so he’s clearly ridiculous enough to take the helm. The re-make will unleash this sacred madness upon a whole new generation of kids. And, last but certainly not least, there’s a chance we’ll see 65-year-old Bill Murray playing basketball with Bugs Bunny.

LET’S DO THIS THING.
