It's not Snoop Dogg, unfortunately. We were all secretly hoping it'd be Snoop Dogg.

A couple of days ago it was announced that Colin Farrell will play as one of the leads in the upcoming second season of True Detective. Now it’s been confirmed that he’ll be joined by Vince Vaughn, of all people.

ACTING.

In a press release, HBO also gave some pretty sweet details about the second season’s plot:

“Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder. The series is created and written by Nic Pizzolatto. Justin Lin will direct the first two episodes.

Cast: Colin Farrell as Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him. Vince Vaughn as Frank Semyon, a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.

Additional casting will be announced as it is confirmed.

So Farrell won’t sub in as a broody Irish Owen Wilson-type to Vaughn’s familiar lovable-goof schtick (thank goodness); it looks like they’ll havbe more of an antagonistic relationship instead. There are still two leads to be announced, so we can still play the #TrueDetectiveSeasonTwo game on Twitter for a few days yet.
