Pass It On: Why Weren’t We Invited To This Pug Wedding?

The lavish £2,000 ceremony was held over the weekend, at a cat hotel in Northamptonshire.

Christine Reynolds is a 52-year-old dog groomer and hairdresser from Northamptonshire, England. She has two pet pugs — Betty and Albert — and she just spent £2,000 on their wedding.

“My pugs are in love so getting them married seem like the right thing to do,” she told the local paper. “Now that they are married they can sleep in the same bed and hopefully have some puppies together.”

They married over the weekend at Kitz-Katz cattery in Desborough, a luxury cat hotel which provides “light and airy accommodation” for cats who are looking forward to “a safe, clean, stress free stay”.

Betty wore a £100 custom-made dress with a diamond-studded veil and matching wedding lingerie (what?), and had her nails done and her fur trimmed before the event. Albert, meanwhile, arrived in a tux, complete with trilby and bow tie.

The best dog at the wedding was Doodles the pug, who is owned by Clive Phillips. Clive spoke the vows on behalf of Albert, while Christine spoke for Betty, who was walked down the aisle to UB40s ‘Here I Am’. After they exchanged wedding rings (affixed to their collars), the pair were walked back to UB40’s rendition of ‘I’ve Got You Babe’, as guests threw dog confetti over them. I don’t know what dog confetti is, and I don’t plan to Google it either.

The reception was held at a hotel nearby, with dog cake for the dogs, human cake for the humans, and what one can only assume was an extremely patient hotelier presiding over the event.

A week before their wedding, Betty and Albert had a hen’s night and stag party at a The Swan Inn in Milton Keynes Village. An L-plate and bunny ears were affixed to Betty, as she “danced the night away with her doggy pals while drinking dog-friendly cocktails,” according to the report. Christine maintains neither dog was unfaithful on their last night of singledom.

“I know what people must think,” Christine says.

But does she? Does she really know what people must think?
