The second season of True Detective was bad.

It was not good.

It wasn’t patchy. It wasn’t underwhelming. It was bad. Like, cartoonishly so.

Exactly, Vince Vaughn. Exactly.

Despite the sophomore season’s relentless crumbiness, however, it did rake in fairly solid viewer numbers. So it’s not really surprising that, having given the dust enough time to settle, HBO is keen on a season three.

According to Variety, creator Nic Pizzolatto will be joined this season by Deadwood mastermind David Milch, who the trade reports has an “unconventional working style”. It’s not really clear what that means, but HBO clearly believe it’s preferable to giving Pizzolatto free reign again, which same.

Pizzolatto has reportedly settled on a concept for the cop show’s third season and is currently working on scripts. Whatever it is, I’m sure it’ll be real upbeat. He is also apparently working on a Perry Mason reboot starring Robert Downey Jr.
