Thousands Of People Gathered For A Mass Illegal Wedding In Support Of Marriage Equality
#EqualLove
Thousands of people gathered in Melbourne on Saturday afternoon for mass same-sex wedding ceremony and rally in support of marriage equality.
An estimated 15,000 people took to the streets of the Melbourne CBD, in what organisers believe is the largest marriage equality march the city has ever seen.
Federal Greens senator Janet Rice addressed the crowd in front of the State Library with her wife, Nobel Prize winning climatologist Penny Whetton.
“We are going to fight and we are going to win,” said Rice.

Also in attendance was Victorian equality minister Martin Foley, who called on people to unite to ensure that a Yes vote is returned in the upcoming marriage equality postal survey.
“This is about making sure one group of Australians are treated the same as everyone else,” said Foley. “It’s a pretty simple proposition. That’s why we are backing the Yes campaign, that’s why Victorians are backing the Yes campaign.”
