It’s been a few weeks now since Comedy Central announced that universally beloved host of The Daily Show, Jon Stewart, was abandoning us/retiring after sixteen years in the chair. But he’s made it perfectly clear that he’s not going anywhere just yet, defending his beloved Daily Show after a WWE wrestler called it “unwatchable” on national television.

Seth Rollins, known for his interesting hair colour choices and catchphrases like “follow the buzzards,” took a break between not wrestling and talking about wrestling to deliver a carefully worded monologue, including such claims about himself as “the most talented performer in the entire world” and “the most valuable asset in all of WWE.” I’m not a regular watcher of the show, so I’ll be fair and say one of those might be true. Even though he rightly placed the position of Daily Show host as more important than President of the United States, Rollins went too far, declaring himself good enough to “take over as host of The Daily Show for Jon Stewart, and make that thing actually watchable.” SNAP.

Big mistake. After finding out, Jon Stewart took straight to what looks like his phone’s camera to deliver an adorable attempt to be threatening: “I’m coming for you Rollins, and you’re gonna see it. 160 pounds of dynamite. Obviously not dynamite, my bone density isn’t what it used to be. 160 pounds of wood. Like a soft wood, like a pine. Like a balsa. Still, splinters! That’s going to hurt. My point is, you messed with the wrong guy. And I’m coming. And that’s money in the bank, my friend. We out.”

Come on Jon, your strength is in your words.

While it’s clear Stewart won’t be letting Rollins take over as host, there are still plenty of good options. In the meantime, Stewart v Rollins might not be over just yet. Prepare yourselves for the image of Jon Stewart in a WWE-style costume.
