After a week of feverish speculation about what song they would tackle for the debut Like A Version appearance, the misery is now over. This morning, fruit salad lovers The Wiggles took on Tame Impala’s thumping 2012 track ‘Elephant’ — and it was very, very good.

Of course, The Wiggles have chops — Murray Cook is a legit rock god in his own right, and the other Wiggles are just as proficient — so there was no doubt they could actually pull off a cover like this. But still, hearing The Wiggles, the OGs Jeff and Murray joining the current crew for the occasion, absolutely churn through Kevin Parker’s psych-rock mess was a little mind-bending. They chucked in a bit of ‘Fruit Salad’ into the mix as well, which went down a treat.

“We wanted to choose something Australian,” revealed Emma Watkins, the yellow Wiggle. “For most of the time that we’ve had the honour of going to The ARIAs, we get to see Tame Impala a lot on stage. We’ve never really met them properly but we thought that we’d like to pay tribute to this amazing Australian band.”

“We know people take [Like A Version] very seriously,” Anthony Field said. “So we didn’t want to stuff it up. Also, it’s an amazing song, and it’s deceptively hard. I thought it was going to be like [Norman Greenbaum‘s] ‘Spirit In The Sky’ but you get into it and…the guy’s a genius!”
