After years of being hounded on the textline and a brief and fiery campaign from brekky hosts Bryce and Ebony, triple j has finally done it: Australia’s most iconic band, The Wiggles, will make their Like A Version debut this Friday.

OG members Murray Cook (who’s more known for his guitar shredding chops these days) and Jeff will be coming back for the occasion, joining the current line-up of Anthony Field, Lachlan Gillespie, Simon Pryce and Emma Watkins. “Murray Wiggle, the rock god, he’s agreed. The OG’s coming together with the current Wiggles, and we’re going to create music history with a great song on Like a Version… We can’t wait,” Field told fans in a video announcement earlier this week.

The news hit triple j fans like a freight train, and ever since, the rumour mill has been running red hot — just what song will The Wiggles choose to cover for their first LAV appearance??

Over on triple j’s subreddit, speculation is wild — everything from ‘WAP’ to Architecture In Helsinki to TISM to Sandi Thom’s one-hit-wonder ‘I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker (With Flowers In My Hair)’.

‘WAP’ seems to be a popular choice — both in Music Junkee Facebook comments, news articles, and Twitter. Someone also boldly called for them to cover a Death Grips song, which would certainly be a moment.

Elsewhere in the Music Junkee comments were suggestions like Regurgitator, Tool, Slipknot, Metallica, ‘Killing In The Name’, and ‘Get On The Beers‘, the Mashd N Kutcher track featuring Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews.

Yesterday, Music Feeds threw out five potential songs that would make for prime Wiggles covers, including Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson’s ‘Uptown Funk’, Powderfinger’s ‘Baby I’ve Got You (On My Mind)’, and The Angels ‘Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again’ (no way, get fucked, fuck off, etc).

It’s worth nothing The Wiggles have form when it comes to covers — who could forget the time they took on U2’s ‘Angel Of Harlem‘? They’ve also tried their hand at One Direction, Ariana Grande, Elton John, and The Rolling Stones.

It’s anyone’s guess — but at least we don’t have long to wait to find out. The Wiggles will hit the studio tomorrow morning on triple j.
