With the political demise of Tony Abbott last night, the demand for Australian flags to flank press conferences, dubious national security announcements and policy backdowns is expected to fall dramatically. Whether it’s a cabinet that “functions exceptionally well” in name only or a big old pile of patriotic flags you can’t use anymore, there’s only one way to get rid of old junk that’s suddenly lost its value: hock it on the internet.

That’s the thinking clearly driving Gumtree user “Tone”, who posted a definitely real and not-at-all snarky ad to sell off a bunch of Australian flags earlier today.

“Fallen on some uhhh-uhhhh-unforeseen circumstances and no longer need these Australian flags,” reads the ad. “Great for displaying your militant patriotism. When the polls are bad, get more poles!

“Undesirable offers will be turned back, will be turned back, will be turned back.”

Good times. See the ad here.
