Marvel boss Kevin Feige dropped some big news overnight. Marvel is “definitely sort of” planning a film about Ms. Marvel, aka Kamala Khan, teenage Muslim superhero and absolute legend, and we’re fucking stoked.

Khan, if you’re not familiar, burst onto the comic book scene a in 2013, and shortly afterwards became the first Muslim character to headline a Marvel comic book. She’s a young Pakistani-American girl with shapeshifting powers who goes by the superhero name Ms. Marvel, and her story has been widely acclaimed for both spinning a great yarn and representing young Muslim women with nuance, empathy and accuracy.

Now we might get to see Khan on screen in the not-too-distant future. “Captain Marvel’s shooting right now with Brie Larson,” Feige told a BBC interviewer, “But Ms. Marvel, which is another character in the comic books, the Muslim hero who is inspired by Captain Marvel, is definitely sort of in the works.”

“We have plans for that once we’ve introduced Captain Marvel to the world.”

And despite the vague “definitely sort of” announcement, fans are really excited. They’re also already calling on Marvel to get this one right, and seize the opportunity to cast a young, unknown Pakistani-American actress in the role.

While we wait for more info on Marvel’s plans, you can read more about Ms. Marvel here. We highly recommend you pick up the comics, too.
