Memes may move fast, but Lil Nas X — someone whose career catapulted because of a TikTok challenge — can keep up; he’s just dropped a new animated music video for his latest ‘Old Town Road’ remix set in Area 51. Oh, and Keanu Reeves is there too.

Animated and directed by artist Somehoodlum, the video sees Lil Nas and the remix’s featured artists Billy Ray Cyrus, Young Thug and Mason Ramsey (yes, the yodelling Walmart boy) storm Area 51 and save the aliens almost definitely inside the famous military compound. Keanu Reeves helps too while doing the Naruto run, because of course he does.

There are a few more Easter Eggs too, including a rendition of YouTube music critic The Needle Drop, some references to Minecraft and Avengers: Endgame and Lil Nas’ EP highlight, ‘Panini’.

The video arrives just five days after the surprise drop of the 3rd official remix of Lil Nas’ chart-busting single. It arrived just hours after Billie Eilish and Justin Bieber released their remix of Eilish’s ‘Bad Guy’ — a song we called soulless, designed purely to knock ‘Old Town Road’ off the #1 US Billboard 200 charts. If it holds strong for two more weeks, it’ll reach 17 weeks at the top spot, breaking the record currently held by a Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men song and the ‘Despacito’ remix with Bieber.

Lil Nas, clearly, came prepped — not just for chart dominance, but to free aliens. He’s previously tweeted he’ll play a set at the Area 51 storm for free after a GoFundMe asked him to, though the US Government has made a statement asking the masses to please not attack a military base. 2019!
