A killer kangaroo has fatally injured a Western Australian man, going as far as to prevent paramedics from providing him with emergency care.

The 77-year-old Redman local was reportedly keeping a young grey kangaroo as a pet, which experts say can grow to over 1.3 metres in height and weigh over 50 kilos.

Sadly, family members found the man with severe injuries after the kangaroo presumably turned on his owner earlier in the day, with worried relatives calling emergency services to the scene at around 5pm.

However, paramedics were prevented from delivering urgent care to the injured man by the killer kanga, who posed such a threat to emergency responders that they were forced to call the police.

Arriving at the scene, responding officers were then “required to euthanise the kangaroo by firearm” before responders could approach the wounded man, according to a police spokesperson. Sadly, by the time paramedics were finally able to access the scene, the man had passed from his injuries.

The recent death is the first to occur from a kangaroo attack since 1936, and serves as a solemn reminder that roos are wild animals, not pets.

A report into the incident will be prepared for the coroner, and will hopefully provide some clarity into what happened.
