Here’s Everything You Missed On Junkee While We Were Locked Out Of Facebook

Did you miss us? We missed you.

Want more Junkee in your life? Sign up to our newsletter, and follow us on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook so you always know where to find us.

How was your Facebook this week? What memes did your mum post? Who from your high school got engaged? How are your cousin’s kids?

Did you miss us? We missed you.

We might not have been on Facebook, but we were still writing, reporting, and publishing. For those of you who went out of their way to find us on Twitter and Instagram, and signed up to our newsletter — we love you! For those who… didn’t do those things… we still love you too, so we’ve put together a delightful little recap of our week without Facebook.

We Wrote About ‘Wandavision’ (A Lot)

Our resident MCU expert Merry spent many hours updating her running lists of Wandavision MCU easter eggs and sitcom references — both are must-reads if you watched last week’s episode. And speaking of last week’s episode of Wandavision, we should… probably talk about Kathryn Hahn, right? Specifically, how fucking good she is in that show.

We Decided What You Should Watch This Weekend

If you haven’t already watched It’s A Sin… wyd? Beyond our initial review, we’ve also published a piece shining a light on the women of the AIDS crisis, inspired by the show’s central female character, Jill. We have some lil’ treats for RuPaul’s Drag Race fans too, with Jared recapping Drag Race UK  ‘Social Media: The Rusical’ and this season’s Snatch Game, which featured none other than Australian icon Kath Day Knight.

And, speaking of TV, we also published this investigation into whether Joss Whedon was the real big bad of Buffy. It’s worth a read.

Daft Punk Broke Up And We Felt Our Feelings

Over on Music Junkee, it was… a big week to say the least. Conor Herbert had the tough job of pulling together a ranking of Daft Punk’s most essential songs. (We couldn’t get the speaker in our new office to work, but we all sang ‘One More Time’ in our heads all day.) We also looked back on the duo’s genre-defining 2017 Australian Nevereverland tour and dug into the MJ archives to remember that time the Daft Punk starship descended on Wee Waa.

We Got Your Weekend Music Reads Sorted

Jack Tregoning profiled Tash Sultana, where they shared “I don’t give a fuck anymore, I feel like I’m totally and utterly just living, for real, at my fullest self” and so much more. We asked Brendan Maclean and Jack Colwell to interview each other, which led to an incredibly beautiful exchange about friendship, rivalry, and the media’s often-shitty treatment of queer artists. And, in a throwback to the year 2006, we dug into the strange and homophobic history of t.A.T.u.. You’re in for a wild ride.

And, As Always, We Reported On The Shit That Matters

After the release of the trailer for Sia’s debut film, Music, Michelle spoke to autistic people in Australia to find out how they feel about the film’s inauthentic depiction of autism, which is definitely worth reading before you consider watching. Joshua Badge unpacked the government’s changes to JobSeeker, explaining why the $3.50-a-day raise is an insult to unemployed people. And Jennetta Quinn-Bates reported on a regional council’s plans to destroy sacred Wiradjuri land with a go-kart track.

We’re happy to be back.
