Here’s a thing you might not know about 2017’s Jumanji sequel, Welcome To The Jungle — that thing made a lot of money. Like, a lot.

The continuation of one of Hollywood’s least likely franchises — seriously, who expected a Robin Williams family film about a magic board game would still have legs decades later? — the reboot scooped up a truly staggering amount of box office tickets. Grossing almost half a billion dollars in North America alone, the Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson action flick coasted in just under the billion dollar mark. It even, somewhat bafflingly, managed to give Star Wars: The Last Jedi a run for its money, hotly tailing the thing on the box office top ten for weeks.

Of course, Hollywood has never been one to look a gift horse like that in the mouth. Hence the forthcoming sequel, Jumanji: The Next Level, a new film dropping a little under two years since the last one burst onto our screens.

Directed by Welcome To The Jungle‘s creative mastermind, Jake Kasdan, The Next Level boasts much of the talent that made the first one such a hit. So yes, The Rock himself has returned, as has Hart, Karen Gillan and perpetually baffled-looking screen presence Nick Jonas.

But, excitingly, there’s also a whole bunch of new talent coming along for the ride, including Awkwafina, Danny Glover and the internet’s father himself, Danny DeVito.

Yes, we might never have been given DeVito voicing the title character in Detective Pikachu, but at least we have been blessed with the man’s turn as a shuffling, shambolic grandfather who spends his life arguing with Danny Glover in a stately old home.

So sure, the trailer doesn’t exactly reinvent the wheel, but who needs wheels when you’ve got The Rock doing a DeVito impression?

Jumanji: The Next Level hits theatres on December 13.
