It’s only February, but I’m pretty sure we can call it: this video of commissioner Kenneth Hayne flat out refusing to shake treasurer Josh Frydenberg’s hand is the most brutal own of 2019.

For the past few months, Hayne, a former High Court justice, has been leading the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry. Yesterday, he handed over his report to Frydenberg, ahead of its release to the public on Monday.

To be honest, it’s not really surprising that relations are a little bit frosty between the two men. The government vehemently opposed setting up a royal commission into the financial sector, which doesn’t look particularly good in light of Hayne’s interim report back in September, in which he slammed the major banks as well as the regulators who he said failed to hold dodgy operators to account.

Still, when the time came for the pair to meet, Frydenberg tried to put on a good face for the camera. I guess that’s part of being a politician.

Hayne, on the other hand:

That might be the most savage “nope” in the history of the English language.

Keep your eyes out for Hayne’s full report on Monday. It’s sure to be absolutely cooked.
