Jack River is really into the ’90s: her slate of recent singles have all been linked by a distinct teen movie soundtrack vibe, especially ‘Sugar’, the cotton-candy collab with Peking Duk. Now, she’s taking it to the next level with the (loosely) The Wedding Singer-inspired project “Weddings, Parties, Anything” — a chance to have her play your next big event for free.

Just before Christmas last year, River — aka Holly Rankin — posted on Facebook that she’d be keen to play at an acoustic event for free for one lucky fan, provided they slide into her DMs and tell her all about it. Fast-forward a month, and Rankin’s been so inundated with messages that she’s announced she wants to play more than one event.

“A couple weeks ago I started a special lil’ experiment called WEDDINGS PARTIES ANYTHING!,” she wrote on Facebook. “Basically, I will be heading out sometime this year to play at your wedding, your party, anything. We have received hundreds of amazing entries, literally so blown away by all of you — so we are keeping the gates open until Jan 31!!”

How do you enter? Well, write “play at my party” to Jack River on Facebook Messenger, and answer the automated questions from there. Rankin included a couple of hashtags in her Facebook post hinting she’ll happily bake, be a bridesmaid, give a speech, or play to a room of dogs — it looks like any gig really is on the cards, here.

Last week, River released ‘Dark Star’, her fifth single since her stunning 2018 sophomore album, Sugar Mountain. We’re also still truly, madly, deeply obsessed with her ‘Like A Version’ of Savage Garden. Listen to ‘Dark Star’ below, off her upcoming Stranger Heart EP, out February 14.
