Ahead of her national tour kicking off tonight in Brisbane, Jack River popped into triple j for a very lush ‘Like A Version’ of Savage Garden’s ‘Truly, Madly, Deeply’.

Holly Rankin has given the ’90s classic a distinctly Jack River sound — if we didn’t know better, we’d swear it was cut straight from Sugar Mountain.

Rankin’s voice is perfect for the song, but the rendition’s wistful synths, three guitars and a quiet- storm-esque saxophone solo are welcome additions.

Add to that her band’s matching cream suits, Rankin’s sparkly jumpsuit and some hazy purple backing lights, and you’re got a performance perfect for a ’90s prom slow dance. Which makes sense: Jack River’s tour is transforming venues across Australia into a Sugar Mountain ball, complete with decorations.

River also performed a rendition of recent single ‘Adolescent’. Watch them both below — and, if you’d like, read our longform feature on River.
