Festival-goers around the world are feeling bereft right now, with COVID-19 restrictions causing the postponement and cancellation of beloved festivals like Splendour in the Grass, Coachella, and Dark Mofo.

Thankfully, ABC sketch show At Home Alone Together is here to help you set up your own music festival in your backyard — complete with all the wonderful and gross features you’ve grown to love.

“First you want to really trash the place,” vibe specialist Birgit Oestengardt explains to us. “You’re trying to create the feel of destruction.”

Then, of course, we’re instructed to create some “mud zones” to get that real outdoor festival experience. And you know you have the right level of mud “when it can swallow a small child.”

For the music, Brigit suggests tuning to triple j: “That way you can play artists you’ve never heard of, but have to pretend to to impress your new festival friends.”
