Triple j’s Like A Version has been on something of a hot streak at the moment.

Of course, we’re only a matter of a few weeks on from the airing of The Wiggles’ internet-breaking cover of ‘Elephant’ by Tame Impala. But that’s not been the only delight. Alice Ivy and an all-star group of mates took on ‘How Bizarre’ by OMC; Dallas Woods covered Fat Joe; and now, rising superstar Didirri has put his own distinctive stamp on ‘Wake Me Up When September Ends’ by Green Day.

Thought that one of the saddest songs of the emo era couldn’t get any sadder? Well, you’re wrong: the version by Didirri has mournful piano, lilting harmonies and a scraped-clean chorus.

Best to watch this one with tissues in your hand. Thanks, Like A Version, for making me cry into my morning coffee. Watch the cover of ‘Wake Me Up When September Ends’ in full below:
