Celebrities Have Teamed Up For Another Cringey iPhone Video, This One To End Racism

This one might even be worse than Gal Gadot's sing-along.

It might feel like a lifetime ago, but it was only March this year when a group of celebrities got together on the outskirts of their mansions and sang John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ into their iPhones.

Within moments of being uploaded, that clip — organised by Gal Gadot, AKA Wonder Woman — was torn to shreds. It was seen as the low point of celebrity activism, an example of rich people doing the bare minimum and expecting to get a big old pat on the back for it.

Well, guess what: the celebrities are at it again. And this time, rather than trying to lift our mood during the coronavirus pandemic, they’re trying to end racism.

Yep, in a solemn, ultra-serious series of monologues delivered to iPhones, shot in black and white, celebrities around the world have once again made a hollow, empty gesture instead of opening their wallets.

“I take responsibility,” says musician Kesha at the start of the video, holding her hands across her chest. Quickly, a range of other stars join the chorus, including Aaron Paul, Julianne Moore, Stanley Tucci, and Sarah Paulson.

But it’s unlikely you’ll get through enough of the video to see all the cameos — the thing is so cringey it’s genuinely rather hard to sit through.

Of course, ending systemic racism will require help from people of all walks of life. But it’s not achieved by celebrities mumbling nothings into their phones. It’s achieved when they open their wallet and make donations. Most of the celebrities in the clip have failed to show their receipts. And that’s what they need to do right now.

Anyway, understandably, the internet is once again ripping this tone-deaf stunt to shreds.

Truly celebrities cannot bloody help themselves.
