Conservatives Have Banned Big Bird From Their Florida Conference, Like He’d Want To Go Anyway

Bert, Ernie, and Elmo are also not invited.

An American conservative organisation has banned Big Bird from attending their annual conference in Florida, after the Sesame Street character shared he’d been ‘vaccinated’ against COVID-19.

On Thursday, the Conservative Political Action Conference posted that Big Bird was explicitly “not invited” to attend their event in Florida next February.

The 2021 iteration held in Dallas back in July saw audiences cheer when it was announced the US had failed to meet its vaccination goal. Coincidentally, the theme for this year’s conference was ‘America Uncancelled’.

Also on the hit list were Bert and Ernie, who’ve only loosely mentioned vaccines online, so are more likely only banned from hypothetically attending the event as they are a fictional gay couple. If you thought everyone’s favourite little red guy was spared, unfortunately CPAC gave Elmo his own separate, dedicated post.

In the Sesame Street special episode that aired earlier this month, the gang of friendly monster muppets helped dispel concerns and spread the word about the importance of getting jabbed. In one segment, Big Bird video calls Elmo, Rosita, as well as CNN reporters Dr. Sanjay Gupta and Erica Hill to break down the ABCs of COVID vaccines.

Anti-vax groups quickly kicked up a stink after Big Bird tweeted that his wing was feeling a little sore after his jab, but reassured followers that “it’ll give my body an extra protective boost that keeps me and others healthy”. Republican senator Ted Cruz responded that Big Bird was perpetuating “government propaganda … for your five-year-old” despite being vaccinated himself.

Given CPAC’s general admission are a whopping AUD$400 per person/puppet, Big Bird has saved himself a pretty penny on this RSVP.
