The cover lacks the original's rawness, but makes up for it with the harmonies.

Last week, the internet collectively fell in love with ‘I Wonder What’s Inside Your Butthole’, an inspired original guitar-only track by a little girl. Now, Ben Lee and Josh Radnor (of How I Met Your Mother fame) have covered it.

In case you missed the smash hit, the song caught on after actress and musician Lisa Rieffel posted a video of her daughter performing her song, which includes the lyrics “maybe it’s astronauts/maybe it’s aliens”. Inspired!

As the track blew up, it, of course, got a lot of remixes — our favourite has to be the circuit gay house edit, obviously. And now, Lee and Radnor, who make music together as Radnor and Lee, have joined in.

The duo go for an indie-folk harmony, which, to be honest, doesn’t quite match the emotional intensity or rawness of the original. But it does sound nice.

Radnor and Lee’s second album Golden State was supposed to be released this Friday, but has been postponed due to COVID-19, with no new date announced yet. Consider the cover a consolation. Listen to it and the classic below.
