In the wee hours of this morning, after months of waiting, Marvel Studios dropped the very first teaser trailer for Avengers: Endgame. And as you’d expect, there was a lot to take in.

If you haven’t watched the trailer already, here it is.

Okay, so the trailer doesn’t reveal much in terms of the movies plot, other than the fact that everyone is real sad. Which seems fair enough, to be honest, given what happened at the end of Infinity War.

Still, there are definitely some interesting slivers of information to be gleaned here. Starting with:

Tony Stark in Avengers: Endgame

Tony Stark Is In Trouble

Jeez, Iron Man has been through the ringer. When we last him him, he was stranded on a distant alien planet, having just watched his teenage protege turn to dust in his arms. Now he’s floating through space, with no food, no water and a dwindling supply of oxygen. Things do not look great.

Of course, it’s hard to imagine Tony going out like this. He might not know how to pilot Star Lord’s ship back to earth, but maybe Nebula can help? Or a certain intergalatic captain, perhaps?

Thanos in Avengers Endgame

Thanos Has Retired

From the brief glimpse we get of him in this trailer, it looks as though the Mad Titan is enjoying some much needed time off to farm weird alien flowers or whatever. I suspect he might need that armour though, because you better believe The Avengers (or what’s left of them) will be out for revenge.

Shuri in Avengers: Endgame

Shuri Is Missing, Presumed Disintegrated

Oooft. This one hurts. We didn’t actually see T’Challa’s badass sister get dusted at the end of Infinity War, but the trailer includes a shot of face on a at Avengers headquarters alongside Peter Parker and Scott Lang, which does not bode well.

Technically the team doesn’t know what happened to Parker, since they were on different sides of the universe at the time of his demise. And while they might think Lang is no more, viewers know thanks to the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp that he was “safe” in the Quantum Realm when Thanos snapped his fingers. So maybe Shuri managed to survive as well? Hey, no harm in being optimistic!

Thor in Avengers Endgame

Thor Has Regrets

He should have gone for the head.

Hawkeye in Avengers Endgame

Hawkeye Has A Snazzy New Costume

After sitting out Infinity War, Hawkeye is back for Avengers: Endgame and he’s got some sharp new threads to match his new sword. In the comic books, Hawkeye adopts the mantle of the vigilante Ronin following the events of Civil War, and it looks at though the cinematic version of the character has done the same thing. Why? It’s not clear, although maybe his family getting turned to ash had something to do with it. He certainly doesn’t look too cheery.

Captain America and Black Widow in Avengers: Endgame

Captain American And Black Widow Have A Plan

We don’t actually know what that plan is yet, although the speculation among fans is that it involves time travel and/or the Quantum Realm. Speaking of which…

Scott Lang in Avengers: Endgame

Ant-Man Is Back!

It looks as though Scott Lang’s time trapped in the Quantum Realm was a lot shorter than Janet van Dyne’s. It’s not clear how he manged to escape, since the only people who knew he was down there got annihilated. But the important thing is he’s back, and he’s only thing about this trailer that’s not horribly depressing. Honestly guys. Sure, half the universe got wiped out, but you can’t sit around moping all day.

Avengers: Endgame hits cinemas in Australia on April 25, 2019.
