Why Aren’t You Watching John Oliver’s ‘Real Animals, Fake Paws Footage?

The Supreme Court doesn't allow cameras during oral arguments, so John Oliver got dogs to re-enact them instead.

The Supreme Court term has just begun in the United States, and as always, you won’t be able to watch any of it: there has been a longstanding ban on cameras from filming oral arguments in the court, largely from fear that snippets will be taken out of context and circulated.

By way of both mocking the ban and also just having a great day at work,  John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight dressed a whole bunch of dogs up as judges, made each of them tiny little puppet paws, and filmed them sitting in court. They then linked to audio from the proceedings, with which you can overdub the footage.

While the overdub idea is a pretty fun one, I gotta say: nothing beats watching this in silence.
