Finally. The second season of Westworld is here, and everyone’s already trying to examine and analyse every single little clue the premiere has given us, so that they can figure out what will happen next.

And there’s one particular shot that’s got fans talking.

Before we get into it — a warning that this article will reveal some of the major plot points of season one, as well as some details from the first episode of season two.

Don’t Read Past This Point If You Don’t Want Spoilers

Let’s talk about Ford, the mysterious founder of Westworld.

In the last episode of season one, the character (played by Anthony Hopkins) was killed by Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) in dramatic style.

But since the season finished, fans have questioned whether Ford truly died. Yes, he was shot point blank in the back of the head. But he was also working in a secret lab through the latter half of the season on god-knows-what, and there are so many different moments throughout the season where Ford tries his hardest to ‘play god’.

That’s how the theory goes: that it wasn’t actually Ford who was shot by Dolores in the season finale, but a robot doppelganger that Ford created himself.

Reddit has added an excruciating amount of detail to this theory. A lot of the community thinks Ford may have actually been a robot the whole time. After all, he does really hate that his theme park now only really serves to line the pockets of human executives. And there are some nice stylistic differences between Ford and humans: he “is the only member of the corporation… who dresses in a vintage fashion from a bygone era”.

Did The Premiere Of Season 2 Blow This Theory Wide Open?

There’s one shot in the premiere that is bugging some super-fans. It’s this one:

Ford Westworld

When humans come and examine the array of dead robots and humans left behind from the deadly party that Ford threw at the end of last season, the robots haven’t decomposed, but the humans have.

Ford has some lovely maggots and flies surrounding the gunshot wound he suffered. This could totally still be a red herring: Maybe robot-Ford just switched bodies in the time it took for the massacre to be examined, or maybe Ford is such an advanced technician that he’s figured out a way to make dead robots decay.

I don’t trust the Westworld writers enough to give in to this evidence too easily.

In regards to everything else that was shown in the first episode, everyone just feels ridiculously confused.

Meanwhile, if the tweets are anything to go by, the season 2 premier looks like a doozy.

If you want to catch the first episode of the new season, you can watch it on Showcase tonight at 8:30pm AEDT, or catch it on Foxtel On Demand by tomorrow at the latest.
