We’re Looking For A New Music Journalist

Come work with us!

We’re searching for an exceptional writer to join Australia’s leading and longest-running online music titles: inthemix and FasterLouder. ITM covers all aspects of dance music — from clubs to mixes, festivals to the best parties — while FL is a trusted source of breaking news, longform features and interviews centred on the live music scene.

We’re looking for a Music Journalist to be based in either our Sydney head office or our Melbourne office, ideally working across both titles as well as the Junkee Media network, including Junkee, AWOL and The Cusp. This is a rare opportunity for a versatile music writer that can write eloquently about Kaytranada’s latest track and review Violent Soho the next night.

The ideal candidate will:

— Be a super fast writer with the ability to nail the right tone of each piece, delivering consistently high quality copy each time, every time. You will write daily news and features and will be versed in social media and how to get your content seen as widely as possible (a proven track record of amplifying content digitally will be looked upon very favourably).

— Be a music obsessive with broad tastes, industry contacts and your finger on the pulse.

— Be able to write content that stands out from the crowd, with a keen nose for what makes great local and international news, plus how to find the angle that will cut through.

— Have a love of Junkee Media and familiarity with the media in general. We want someone who reads widely and knows the difference between clickable and clickbait; someone who closely follows the news and understands how to add to the conversation rather than the noise.

— Have some real-world writing/editing experience, whether as a staff member, freelancer or intern. Specifically, we need someone with a proven ability to write smart, funny, and original work quickly. It would also be helpful (but not essential) to have some sub-editing experience.

— Experience with social media and WordPress will also be handy.

To apply, email your cover letter and a CV to [email protected] with the subject title “Music Journalist” by Friday, May 27.
