Do you live for the thrill of a breaking story? A  pretty great opportunity has come up in Junkee Media’s editorial team for a full-time News Editor, working primarily on Junkee.com.

Junkee launched almost three years ago with a remit to shake up Australia’s pop culture landscape. With a fresh take and unique attitude, Junkee quickly established itself as one of the most interesting new voices in Australian media. Junkee was named Media Brand of the Year at the Mumbrella Awards in its first year online, and its funny, smart, ballsy and interesting take on news, film, politics, TV and more has seen it develop a strong following.

Now we’re on the hunt for a News Editor (preferably based in Sydney) to help us continue our trajectory and take Junkee to the next level as Australia’s leading pop culture title for 18- to 35-year-olds.

The ideal candidate will have:

– An innate news sense and an ability to find the stories that cut through in a 24/7 online environment.
– A versatile writer with the ability to crank out everything from quick news pieces to considered features.
– A passion for all aspects of pop culture including film, TV, #auspol, music, and the internet. The role requires a great deal of initiative and you should be equipped with a broad knowledge and understanding of all these areas.
– Experience as an editor or sub-editor, with a wide network of contributors and an ability to manage them.
– A passion for politics and some experience with political reporting will be looked upon favourably.

Junkee is a smart and funny take on the wider world around us, so if you think you’ve got what it takes to be our News Editor send your cover letter and CV with the subject line “News Editor” to [email protected]. Applications close on Monday, June 27.
