It should come as no surprise that Aziz Ansari is into food — and not just because of his Parks and Rec character Tom Haverford’s celebrated ‘Haverfoods‘.

In 2011, Ansari travelled Japan with David Chang and LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy for a food tour with GQ, and for years now, Ansari, Tim and Eric‘s Eric Wareheim and comedy writer/director Jason Woliner have been getting together irregularly for their ‘Food Club’: a bunch of friends visiting restaurants, talking about food. “The three of us are the captains of the Food Club, so we have to wear the captains’ hats,” he explained to The AV Club in 2010. It was in that interview that he revealed Food Club’s plans to create a plaque, to be awarded to restaurateurs who deserved it.

What started as a joke became a hobby, and has since turned into a web series — whose first episode premiered on Tim & Eric, Sarah Silverman and Michael Cera’s YouTube channel JASH overnight.

Get ready for the most overwrought opening credits you’re likely to encounter, followed by a quest for the perfect Bánh Mì.

An excellent tip from Eric Wareheim, for getting sought-after seats: “If you want to get into a secret, special place, put a funny JPEG in there.” Noted.
