The 87th Annual Academy Awards are being broadcast on Channel 9 right now, and they’ve been fairly uneventful. “Tonight we honour Hollywood’s best and whitest — I mean, brightest”, host Neil Patrick Harris began. It was one of the few jokes so far that have actually landed well — the rest have been hammy as hell.

Lucky for NPH, the awkward silences have been overshadowed by an expectedly brilliant opening number, featuring Anna Kendrick (decked out in Into The Woods-style gown), a stage-crash from Jack Black (who brought some Birdman-themed Hollywood cynicism), and an excellent cameo from Benedict Cumberbatch.
