Coopers Brewery have found themselves in hot water this week over a tone-deaf video in which a pair of Liberal MPs have a “light discussion” about marriage equality over a couple of the company’s ice cold brews. The video was created in partnership with the Bible Society of Australia which is, um, a weird organisation for a beer company to be partnering with.

The video has caused considerable backlash, with a number of beer lovers calling for a boycott.  And while Coopers has since issued a statement saying it “did not give permission for our Premium Light beer to feature in, or ‘sponsor’ the Bible Society’s ‘Keeping it Light’ video,” the fact that the brewery has long-standing ties to the Bible Society and is a long time donor to the Liberal Party has a lot of people feeling less than impressed.

With the marketing team at Coopers now in damage control mode, the folks at SBS’s The Feed have decided to lend a hand, producing a commercial to help better promote the family-owned brewery’s core values.

“I love Coopers cos it’s family owned,” remarks one actor. “I love Coopers because they make the best pale ale,” says another.

“I love Coopers because they’ve donated over $86,000 to the Liberal Party since 2009,” adds Mark Humphries.

Haha! It’s funny because it’s true.
