Seth Rogen Fights Back At Twitter Outrage, After Comparing ‘American Sniper’ To Nazi Propaganda
"American Sniper kind of reminds me of the movie that's showing in the third act of Inglorious Basterds."
Though American Sniper is due to come out later this week in Australia, you’ve no doubt already heard about some of the controversy surrounding the film. It’s been nominated for the Best Picture Oscar, Bradley Cooper has been given a nod for Best Actor, and in its opening weekend it took out a cool $105.3 million, but Clint Eastwood’s biopic about the now-deceased US Navy Seal sniper Chris Kyle is being criticised for its over-eager patriotism and entrenched conservative undertones.
I shit you not, one of the film’s more poignant moments includes a soldier yelling “Git some, motherfuckers” while shooting down random baddies in a sandstorm. Git. Some. Motherfuckers.
Anyway. Yesterday Seth Rogen chose to make comment on how this film about a much-celebrated American sniper who killed 160 people in service to his country kind of maybe looks a little like that fictional film about a much-celebrated German sniper who killed 250 people in service to his country.
American Sniper kind of reminds me of the movie that's showing in the third act of Inglorious Basterds.

It did not go well. Despite the sentiment being shared by many over the past week or so, the comment could have been better timed for Rogen — a star who recently kind of nearly caused an international incident with a film of his own.
@Sethrogen many Americans made sure to watch The Interview to support our right to free speech. Soldiers like Chris Kyle made that possible!

With that in mind, a whole lot of patriots were quick to give Rogen a piece of their minds.
@Sethrogen Go serve in the military then spew your bile.

@Sethrogen You kinda remind me of that freshman geometry teacher that tries to be funny but everyone is secretly embarrassed for.

@CKHURIZXE: @kentuckystan @autumnrainwater probably a Prius driving feminist Obama loving America hating hairy underarm* socialist. Haha

Rogen then copped a lot of negative comparisons to Michael Moore who has recently come out against the controversial film.
My uncle killed by sniper in WW2. We were taught snipers were cowards. Will shoot u in the back. Snipers aren't heroes. And invaders r worse
— Michael Moore (@MMFlint) January 18, 2015
These views have then come under scrutiny from other celebrities including Rob Lowe.
"@THR: Michael Moore Blasts #AmericanSniper Hero: Gunmen Are "Cowards" http://t.co/Bftmv4RF9F http://t.co/GM9oXo26sk" He's kidding, right?
— Rob Lowe (@RobLowe) January 19, 2015
Basically it’s one big Hollywood clusterfuck. American Sniper is no doubt one of the most polarising films in recent memory, but for the moment, Seth Rogen thinks everyone should just calm the shit down.
I just said something "kinda reminded" me of something else. I actually liked American Sniper. It just reminded me of the Tarantino scene.
— Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) January 19, 2015
I wasn't comparing the two. Big difference between comparing and reminding. Apples remind me of oranges. Can't compare them, though.

But if you were having a slow news day, you're welcome for me giving you the opportunity to blow something completely out of proportion.

You can make up your own mind when the film premieres on Thursday, January 22.
