So, how far forward does your diary stretch? Because Disney have just announced that Toy Story 4 is being made and they’re going to be delivering it into our greedy, Woody-starved hands on June 16, 2017. AKA my 32nd birthday. I am aquiver with glee.

The new film will also mark the return of John Lasseter as director, who looked after both Toy Story and Toy Story 2. As well as Cars, Cars 2 and A Bug’s Life but, hey, they can’t all be genre-defining mega-smashes. Meanwhile Rashida Jones of Parks and Recreation fame will be doing the screenplay along with her writing pal/ex-boyfriend Will McCormack. The two of them last worked together on 2012 indie rom-com Celeste and Jesse Forever, which The Guardian called “unbearably self-conscious”.

Now, I guess one could be sceptical about the prospect of yet another Toy Story film given that Toy Story 3 went to such lengths to put the storyline of Woody, Buzz and Andy to bed forever. However Lasseter assures us he came up with the idea for this new outing during a meeting with Andrew Stanton (WALL–E), Pete Docter (Up) and Lee Unkrich (Toy Story 3), so let’s just say that the pedigree behind it is rock solid.

Details beyond this are understandably scarce, although it is believed that Walt Disney are planning to use the hilarious profits from the film to buy Canada.
