6 Things You Can Do For Yourself This Weekend That Won’t Cost Money

Our hearty embrace of self-care rituals is one of the best things to happen in recent years. But the thing about self-care is that it can get real pricey real quick. Vitamin C masks and ginseng baths and three-hour hot yoga sessions are fun and they make us feel good, but they cost a pretty penny.

Here are some ways to nourish your body and soul without going high-key bankrupt.

#1 Read A Thing On A Printed Page

Pick up the Sunday paper, or an old paperback you’ve been meaning to finish, and set aside two hours to actually read it. You’ll feel smarter, accomplished and more calm once you’ve finished.

#2 Deep Clean Your House

If you’ve left it worryingly long since you’ve changed your sheets, take care of that shit this weekend. Vacuum anything and everything, put your clothes on that chair of yours away for good and light a scented candle.

There’s nothing that will calm your mind and spirit more than a spotless apartment/house.

#3 Rewrite Your Resume

Look, not all self-care is about kicking back in a bath. Sometimes, self-care is about doing things that future you will thank you for. Even if you have a job, updating your resume with your new skills and interests will remind you why you’re the bossest boss around. It’ll also make the whole job application way easier when it inevitably comes around.

#4 Make An At-Home Spa

The whole reason the internet exists is for DIY beauty treatment tutorials. You can make face masks, foot scrubs, bath bombs and hair treatments with shit in your (parents’) cupboard.

The only problem with some of those recipes is that they require you to use avocado. And let’s be real: if we could afford avo, we’d be eating it.

#5 Cook Up A Lot Of Meals And Freeze Them

We all get home from work/uni, our parents are out and we cannot be fucked to make anything. Instead of reaching for that box of Easy Mac, go into the freezer and heat up one of your PRE-PREPARED MEALS that you made on your ultimate self-care weekend.

Stuff like chilli, spaghetti and curry freeze super well and are really easy to make. Do it now and love yourself later. Trust us.

#6 Go For A Bike Ride

We’ve spoken before about just how good riding a bike is. But seriously: it’s that good. Swooping down a big ol’ hill on a push bike will fill your heart (and hair) with so much oomph. Find a cute path near your house, pop on a podcast and go for a pedal.

#7 Play A Card Game

We often forget how good card games are because our phones exist, so why would we play them? But honestly, a real life game with some friends (or even just a solitaire sesh by yourself) is so much wholesome fun. Plus! Your eyes will start to adjust to what the world looks like without a screen blaring into it. What a bonus.
