"I want him to be everywhere, like gravity or oxygen or clinical depression."

Part of me wants to talk about the meaning or context of this film. Though joking about popstars being self-obsessed isn’t new, its points about a lack of originality in the music industry, an endless love of gimmickry and the epic behind-the-scenes mechanics of stardom are more relevant than ever. With Conner4Real’s holograms of a humping Adam Levine, and a staff of 32 making him look cool (including a certain other star’s mentor, Usher), Popstar could be a great This Is Spinal Tap for the Bieber age.

Then, the other part of me remembers that this is from The Lonely Island. Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone are the guys who gave us ‘I’m On A Boat’, ‘I Just Had Sex’, and Hot Rod. It’s probably best to not think about it too much and let whatever this is wash over you instead.

In case you missed any of those famous faces, they included Snoop Dogg, Simon Cowell, Bill Hader (practically reprising his character from Hot Rod), Sarah Silverman, Will Arnett, Will Forte, Joan Cusack, P!nk, Carrie Underwood, Joanna Newsom, Martin Sheen, and DJ Khaled.

Best quote: “I’d love to get Conner to the point where he’s just everywhere, like gravity or oxygen or clinical depression.”
