The National Have Finally Returned With An Incredible New Single

Nearly four years after their last album, The National have officially announced their seventh LP, Sleep Well Beast. The news comes along with a brand new single, ‘The System Only Dreams In Total Darkness’ — and sweet, sweet lord, it is beautiful.

This marks the band’s first new music since their 2013 album Trouble Will Find Me, though they recently debuted another new track, ‘Turtleneck’, at a Planned Parenthood benefit show in WashingtonThe drone-shot video clip for the new single just dropped online and is directed by Casey Reas.

An internal affair from start to end, Sleep Well Beast was recorded at guitarist and keyboardist Aaron Dessner’s New York studio. Dessner also produced the album, which was co-produced by frontman Matt Berninger and guitarist (and brother) Bryce Dessner.

Sleep Well Beast comes out on September 8 via 4AD / Remote Control. The album artwork and tracklist are online now:
