The Leaked ‘Deadpool’ Trailer Starring Ryan Reynolds Actually Looks Kind Of Great
The phrases "good movie" and "Ryan Reynolds" don't go in the same sentence often, so this is a big deal.
Actor and walking jawline Ryan Reynolds has a long, long history of starring in giant piles of crap, especially when it comes to superhero movies; not only did he play the titular hero in the 2011 Green Lantern movie, which is generally regarded as the cinematic equivalent of death by a thousand cuts, he also starred as Deadpool in the woeful 2012 X-Men Origins: Wolverine, alongside Hugh Jackman’s pecs and a fundamental misunderstanding of how fast bullets are.
All of which makes this freshly-leaked trailer for a hypothetical Deadpool movie — with Reynolds as the star — more surprising, because it actually looks…kinda good? Like, genuinely enjoyable as opposed to “less terrible than we’ve come to expect from Ryan Reynolds”?
It’s worth pointing out that a Deadpool movie isn’t actually in the works yet; the trailer is part of eight minutes of test footage shot by would-be director Tim Miller for would-be studio behind the movie Blur. Still, if the fan reaction to this thing is big enough, it might just lead to a superhero movie starring Ryan Reynolds that doesn’t make you wish you were born without the sensations of sight, hearing and aversion to bad movies.
