The word ‘spoiler’ is in the headline, you probably shouldn’t keep reading unless you’re up to date.

It’s been nearly a month since the season final of Game of Thrones which means we only have to endure about eight more until people can stop losing their minds over Jon Snow. Is he really dead? Is he going to be a wolf or an ice zombie? How exactly do we cope with that sentence, let alone all these very real and complex feelings brought on by a 66-year-old man who looks like a D-grade Westfield Santa, and a fictional child?

Overcome by all this, fans have now found the perfect loophole around the long and tortuous wait for the season six: you can find all the secrets in Kit Harington’s luscious hair. Yesterday, the actor was spotted in the crowd at Wimbledon sporting Jon Snow’s iconic curly mane and the internet was all over it.

BUT WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

Harington famously has a clause in his contract with HBO which requires him to keep his hair in full Jon Snow condition before each series begins filming. Since the final episode’s release, the actor’s been adamant that his character won’t be returning; “I’ve been told I’m dead,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “I’m dead. I’m not coming back next season.” But after mounting fan theories that suggest otherwise plus fellow cast member Emilia Clarke hinting he has a 50/50 chance of coming back, many are taking the pictures as an encouraging sign. The new season of Game Of Thrones begins shooting in six weeks.

Amidst all this excited speculation, there’s been little attention given to another wild theory: Harington might just have his hair like this by choice. In fact, he already plainly stated this in that same post-GoT interview with Entertainment Weekly. “I can cut it if I want, but it’s probably wise to leave long until I know what the next part is,” he said. “I’ve kind of grown accustomed to it, it would feel weird to change it.”

He was also just cast in a new film a little over a week ago: a gothic western thriller called Brimstone where he’ll star alongside Guy Pearce and Dakota Fanning. The film is yet to start shooting but it did announce the news with a poster image of Harington looking full Jon Snow.

Of course, THIS COULD JUST BE WHAT HE WANTS YOU TO THINK. The internet will be keeping you abreast of on any further developments on or around Harington’s head and/or face, and there’s now a Change.org petition you can sign which urges him to cut off all his hair.

Definitely not a waste of time.
