The Internet Put A “God Loves Gays” Billboard Up In The Westboro Baptist Church’s Hometown

And he said "let there be gays", and it was good.

You don’t need schooling in how horrible the Westboro Baptist Church is — you’ve been on the Internet for more than eight seconds, so you know that they’re basically the worst group of people on Earth.

You may also be aware of the existence of God, a joke Facebook page run by some dude who pretends to be God in order to piss off fundamentalist Christians and generally engage in light-hearted trolling, who we interviewed late last year.

In August, the guy behind the God page decided he’d had enough of the Westboro Baptist Church and started organising the God Loves Gay People to get a pro-LGBTI billboard erected in Topeka. Kansas, where the church is based.

The campaign had a goal of raising $50,000 to buy a billboard spot in Topeka for one year. It already has $80,000, and with a solid month left until the campaign deadline has started planning fundraising drives for LGBTI charities and other billboards around the country. The first billboard just went up in Topeka, and it looks Goddamn fantastic.

If you like, you can still give money to the campaign; there are a bunch of prizes like bumper stickers and t-shirts, as if sticking it to the nastiest dudes around isn’t reward enough, and the excess money is going to help LGBTI and homeless people in need. God is good.
