Though we still have four months to wait until the final instalment of The Hunger Games franchise, its marketing team have officially embraced this week as the perfect opportunity to completely lose their minds.

“STAND WITH US; THERE IS NO TURNING BACK,” reads the tagline from their latest promo material/every one of their company-wide emails sent in the last few weeks. “COMIC-CON HAS ARRIVED.”

Kicking off on Wednesday this week, Sandiego Comic-Con is the reason you’ve been seeing a bit more news about your favourite shows this week. Doctor Who premiered the trailer for their ninth season featuring Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams, and The Walking Dead released some new teasers and pics; but nothing has quite matched the hype brought by what will be The Hunger Games final appearance at the convention.

On the first day, they released a new set of posters which — as Vulture rightly pointed out — make the characters look like “Panem’s saddest Kiss cover band”:

On the second, they posted a “motion poster” which I’m not sure was even a real term before this sad moment:

And today, they have offered us something slightly bigger. A full one-minute clip with no dialogue which pretty much confirms everything we already know: there’s definitely some kind of revolution happening, freedom is good, and Jennifer Lawrence looks pretty badass in her slick new combat gear.

This was all reinforced with yet another new poster of her sitting on President Snow’s throne in said combat gear because “THE FIRE [OF THIS MARKETING BLITZ] WILL BURN FOREVER”.

Importantly, while the rest of the world was dealing with all this, those lucky enough to actually be at Comic-Con were getting treated to a panel with the cast and a first viewing of the second full trailer. The session — which you undoubtedly had to sleep outside the convention centre to get into — was moderated by Conan O’Brien, and featured Jennifer Lawrence affectionately touching Josh Hutcherson’s face and talking about her and Liam Hemsworth “holding each other and sleeping like puppies” after filming. Other highlights included Hemsworth leading a chorus of thousands of whistlers accidentally doing The X-Files tune, and Jennifer Lawrence fangirling over bumping into Bill Murray just before the panel.

But, even this was not exempt form the obligatory Hunger Games hype. The screening of the new trailer — which is probably gonna hit the internet shortly — had its own IRL TEASER as the room was taken over by marching-band drummers and a stage full of robotic dudes smashing kettledrums.

This movie better be freakin’ amazing.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part Two will be released November 19.
