Stephen Colbert Just Crashed The RNC Stage As Caesar Flickerman From ‘The Hunger Games’

"I know I’m not supposed to be up here, but to be honest, neither is Donald Trump."

Yesterday was the one-year anniversary of the moment Home Alone 2: Lost In The Big City star Donald Trump clumsily glided into the running for the Republican presidential nomination on an escalator in a suburban mall to Neil Young’s ‘Rockin’ In The Free World’. And, despite all that, there’s a fair argument to say things have only got more bewildering since.

Now the presumptive Republican nominee, Trump’s spent this week deleting penises from his campaign logo and making friends with former Happy Days star/current #AllLivesMatter pest Scott Baio. The pair are about to take to the 2016 Republican National Convention to essentially lay out the game plan for the nation.

Let me off, I want to get off.

Luckily one of the nation’s best political minds, Stephen Colbert, is on hand to give this the coverage it deserves.

Though the convention is yet to officially kick off, Colbert has been spotted running around the arena in Cleveland today dressed as Caesar Flickerman from The Hunger Games. At one point, he rushed the podium of the main stage, grabbed the mic, and started commentating the whole thing.

“[Trump] has formed an alliance with Indiana Governor Mike Pence,” he said with the fictional showrunner’s characteristic smarm. “It is my honour to hereby launch and begin the 2016 Republican National Hungry for Power Games!” Then, when security inevitably caught up to him, he dropped the ultimate one-liner: “Look, I know I’m not supposed to be up here — but to be honest, neither is Donald Trump.”

This isn’t the first we’ve seen of Colbert’s Flickerman impression (special shoutout to “Jeb has fallen” skit about the end of Jeb Bush’s incredibly sad campaign). But this is the first glimpse we’ve seen of the two-week Republican and Democratic Convention coverage where Colbert will be teaming up with his old mate Jon Stewart. It’s a very promising start.
