NASA’s New Horizons mission to finally get some ‘grammable pictures of Pluto paid off big-time, and triggered a massive wave of affection for the little dwarf planet that could. It has a little love heart on it! And it even looks like Pluto the dog a bit!

The last time Pluto got this much love was back in 2006, when it was cruelly demoted from planet to dwarf planet status. One of the ivory-tower bigwigs behind that great injustice was celebrity scientist Neil deGrasse Tyson, who maintains his stance on Pluto’s non-planetness to this very day despite the fact that it is clearly the best of all the planets, much better than this hellish trash sphere we live on. There are no Minions on Pluto. End of argument. Pluto wins.

Putting the argument to Tyson that he is wrong and bad, Late Show host-to-be and fellow massive nerd Stephen Colbert invited him to discuss the new Pluto photos. In the chat that follows, Colbert fact-checks one of the world’s foremost authorities on the solar system in a debate about the solar system, Tyson shockingly reveals his wish to have every rock-based planet — including Earth — reclassified as a dwarf planet, and the pair eat Klondike bars and are generally adorable space geeks.

If the Late Show were somehow never to materialise and Stephen Colbert just made YouTube videos where he argues with his friends forever, that would probably be okay with everyone. Just sayin’.
