She’s All That was released 17 years ago (!!!) but its romantic comedy premise is classic: popular, arrogant kids mess with awkward, arty kids and then a couple of them accidentally fall in love — with some complications when the jock’s arrogance is revealed, of course. It hasn’t actually aged that well (you don’t need to change for any man, Laney Boggs!) but it’s undoubtedly an important part of the teen movie canon.

Well, something incredible happened today. Today, Zack (Freddie Prinze Jr.) and Laney (Rachel Leigh Cook) reunited as adults, and they provided receipts. Just two ’90s teen movie powerhouses, grabbing a coffee like it’s not big deal. Did Freddie Prinze Jr. bring Sarah Michelle Gellar with him? I have so many questions.

Thanks to this fantastic event, now is as good a time as any to discuss our grievances with She’s All That. First up: was Zack’s ex-girlfriend Taylor really that bad? Of course she was mean to Laney and that was not great, but wasn’t Laney effectively being used as a tool to bully her? Taylor at least knew how to do spring break right.

Secondly, Laney Boggs was always cute. Sure the shorter hair suited her better, but she didn’t need an Anna Paquin makeover (“not improved, but different”), a little red dress and Sixpence None The Richer to make her worthy of Zach.

Thirdly, please enjoy this scene in which Usher plays a school DJ and makes everyone do a complicated dance to ‘The Rockafeller Skank’ by Fatboy Slim, which is only bad because it’ll make you feel one thousand years old. Happy Friday!
