Today Bee discussed the contradictory expectations that the media, and even Clinton’s own supporters, put on her before the presidential debate, demands that were not put on her opponent, Donald Trump. Basically Hillary Clinton was required to come off as warm and entertaining, but also seem authentic and to speak with great levity.
“So, be perfect but not too perfect, save us from fascism but like, don’t be a bitch about it,” Bee concluded.

A large portion of the media assessed Clinton’s obvious win in the debate in terms of her friendliness and smile, which one CNN ‘body language expert’ deemed as fake. Another commentator asked who had told Clinton to “smile like she’s at her granddaughter’s birthday”. “Oh, I can answer that,” Bee said. “Fucking everybody.”
Although to some Hillary Clinton didn’t come off as a “three dimensional person”, Samantha Bee argues that she did a better job of winning the female vote than pundits have given her credit for. “I think the experience of a woman listening to a man who just discovered a topic on the internet three weeks ago, belligerently correct a woman who has been studying said topic her entire adult life, felt very ‘Monday’ to most women,” she said.
