The Hateful Eight is shooting and intermissioning its way through Aussie cinemas, and screenings of the film in cinemas that have specially adapted to accommodate the movie’s preferred 70mm format are being rewarded for their efforts. Director Quentin Tarantino has been popping up in random cinemas all over Sydney, chatting with the audience and sitting in regular theatre seats to watch his own movie like any old schmo.

But the Ritz Cinema in Randwick got something even more special on Saturday night, when Tarantino rocked up to a Hateful Eight screening unannounced, took the stage to cheers and applause, before abruptly introducing his “little friend”: Hateful Eight star and longtime collaborator Samuel L Jackson. Not bad value for a twenty-buck movie ticket.
