Father And Son Charged Over Horrific Video Of Indigenous Teen Being Assaulted

A man and a boy have been arrested and charged with aggravated assault after shocking video surfaced of two people beating up a young Aboriginal boy in Port Augusta.

The video below, which was originally uploaded to Facebook by the alleged victim’s Aunty after it was passed onto her, shows a man and a boy cornering another boy in a parking lot, yelling and swearing at him, throwing him to the ground and punching him.

In the video, the assailants can be heard yelling “I’ll fucking cave your fucking head in”, and ordering the boy to get on his knees and apologise for allegedly spitting on the man’s daughter.

“I’m going to come to your fucking house and there’s going to be fucking hell,” the older man threatens.

South Australia Police said a 45-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy had been arrested over the attack, which took place on Monday, and charged with aggravated assault. They will face court in early January. The police also confirmed that the victim did not sustain any serious injuries.

Members of the local Aboriginal community have said they will be watching the court cases closely to ensure justice is served. Welcome to Country pointed to another recent instance of alleged harassment of Aboriginal children in Port Augusta as evidence that this week’s assault is not an isolated problem in the area, and urged against allowing these incidents to slip past without widespread media attention.

“This incident was not reported by the media at all. It is this censorship of news and the lack of justice as seen with the case of Elijah Doughty, that allow these incidents to continue,” they wrote.
