Please Enjoy These Photos Of Princes Harry And William Awkwardly Crashing The ‘Star Wars’ Set

I would watch the hell out of this film.

Before I go any further, I’m going to come clean: I’ve never seen Star Wars. It’s not through any real aversion on my part, it just never happened. I’ve drifted through 25 years on this planet staying very silent when certain friends discuss film and gleaning very incorrect knowledge of the franchise through things like Spaceballs. We all have our blind spots.

That being said, I’m pretty sure if Star Wars featured two incredibly awkward British princes saving the universe (this is probably the plot, right?) by tenderly grazing lightsabers and exchanging genteel challenges to one another’s honour I’m pretty sure I would have been watching it every single day of my life.

“I say — mother always told me you needed more fencing lessons than I.” *throws back head in laugher*

Yesterday Prince William and Prince Harry were invited to take a tour of Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire (a real place) to play with the props of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. They were escorted by actors from the main cast including John Boyega and Daisy Ridley as well the original Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill. They were also given an exclusive look at the set of next year’s Star Wars: Episode VIII.

In an official capacity, this is because Prince William is the President of BAFTA. Kensington Palace released a statement saying the visit was to “recognise the wealth of British creative talent in the production of the Star Wars films [and] highlight the extensive opportunities, facilities and talent in the UK film industry today”. In a non-official capacity, he was just there to play dress-up with his little brother.

AP report that when the princes picked up the lightsabers, Harry asked “Why do I alway have to be the baddie” and William retorted “Are you scaaaaaared?” [emphasis added, but let’s be honest, he almost definitely said it like that]

“I’m not scared of anything I’m a good big boy and everyone loves me and one day I will be king.”

The new film’s director Rian Johnson was also there to greet the Princes yesterday, but it’s unclear if he’s yet to draft up contracts for their leading roles in the new film.

“Here we are! Your brave space heroes! We shall tell those baddies what’s for and get home in time for tea.”
