It's a love story about two rock formations. And it looks WONDERFUL.

Accompanying the release of next year’s Pixar film, the way-too-long-awaited Inside Out, will be Lava: a brand new short film starring a three-mile-wide Hawaiian volcano named Uku, who falls in love with another rock formation and proves once and for all that Pixar can anthropomorphise pretty much anything in the world.

“We struggled with it a lot,” Pixar’s head of animation, James Ford Murphy, told Yahoo!“But I feel like, once we were able to embrace the limitations of it, it unlocked all sorts of possibilities. I love that about animation: You can really make a mountain come alive. You can’t do that in another medium.”

Apparently the mountain’s face is based on the faces of Kuana Torres Kahele (who voices Uku), Jackie Gleeson, and the bulldog in the classic Merrie Melodies/Chuck Jones short, Feed The KittyWhich makes a certain amount of sense.

Rhymes “above-ah” with “love-ah”, makes it rhyme with “lava”, wins everything:

Lava will be released in June 2015 along with Inside Out,  a feature film about a little girl called Riley who is guided by her emotions: Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith).

You can watch a short clip from the film if you download the Disney Anywhere app, but here is a screen shot of Riley:
