An escaped pet kangaroo — who for some reason is named Buster and not Skippy or Joey or Chazzwazza — has been caught after deciding to fly solo in the New York City neighbourhood of Staten Island.

Initially mistaken for a deer, the runaway roo was spotted at an auto repair shop at around 8.30am on Saturday, where he was quickly apprehended by local police.

Officers responding to the call found the owner nearby, who said Buster had ~busted out~ of his friend’s backyard after the gate was accidentally left open.

According to the New York Post, the owner, Giovanni Schirripa, is a known exotic-animal offender — his pet zebra and miniature pony also escaped briefly back in 2012. Great, so animals are always fleeing this guy.

Kangaroos are not allowed to be kept as pets in Staten Island, but are allowed in the upstate New York community where the owner apparently lives, so police didn’t press charges.

They’re probably just thankful the silly bugger was caught before he went spreading wild non-native animals around.

Crisis averted.

Meanwhile, the rest of the world still seem to think Australians talk like this:

Couldn’t tell you why.
