Last weekend Pauline Hanson revealed that Tony Abbott had invited her to his office for a cup of coffee. If the idea of Hanson and Abbott together, drinking the old bean juice, wasn’t enough to fill you with horror I’ve got worse news. They actually met up and filmed the whole thing. The incredibly awkward interaction was posted on Pauline Hanson’s Facebook page last night.

Abbott dropped a teaser of meeting on his Facebook page, writing: “It was good to catch up with Pauline today. We have a chequered history, but our country is best served by parliamentarians working constructively with each other over the next three years.”

Abbott’s comment about his “chequered history” with Hanson is a reference to the fact that he led the campaign to put her in jail for electoral fraud.  In 2013 Hanson accused Abbott of  establishing a legal fund that bankrolled the court case against her. Last month Hanson directly blamed Abbott for her conviction. “I blame Tony Abbott [and] John Howard for my imprisonment and no one will ever change my opinion about that,” she said.

Hanson was ultimately acquitted and it looks like she’s finally decided the whole issue is just water under the bridge. On Facebook she wrote, “Yes, we’ve had our differences in the past, but it’s a new start for me in this 45th Parliament and I intend to leave any bitterness behind me for the sake of the country.”

In the video Hanson thanks Abbott for coming over to her office, sharing a cup of coffee and welcoming her to Parliament. Abbott told Hanson that she would be a “strong advocate” for the half a million voters who supported her One Nation Party. The whole interaction is one of the most awkward and cringe-worthy interactions you’ll ever watch. You can check it out below.
